Data Notes - Suspension of Updates
Notice: The last update of state-level data was February 11, 2021 or the date on any specific page, whichever is latest. This is due to several reasons, including: (a) a notice from The COVID Project that it will discontinue data updates beginning in March 2021; (b) a recent change to the csv-data structure that organization exposes to the public which requires time-consuming changes on my part to over 500 graphics; and (c) a desire to move on from this personal data graphics project as Spring begins to show.
National-level data charts will no longer be updated after March 5 for the same reasons. This is subject to change if a reasonable alternative source for COVID-19 datais found. So far, data offered from national health sources such as HealthData.gov or the CDC is much more disorganized than data derived from The COVID Tracking Project and required far too much effort to clean up and organize.
I wish to express my thanks to The COVID Tracking Project for their hard volunteer work and for providing the data to the public in a form that allowed me and many others to explore this information in deeper detail. This project has enabled me to increase my knowledge and develop data graphics in greater detail and in a more comprehenive way than I could have without their help. Personally, The COVID Tracking Project has allowed me and others to develop a deeper understanding of the COVID pandemic and its scope and scale.
For further information on The COVID Tracking Project and their decision to cease updates, please see this link: It’s Time: The COVID Tracking Project Will Soon Come to an End
I've enjoyed developing my own data graphics project based on The COVID Tracking Project's data over the past nine months or so. Like them, it's time for me to wrap things up and move on. I will continue to update national-level data (Series 1 thru Series 4) for the time being until fresh data is no longer available.
All the best. David Blackwell, litterrocks.com. [2//17/2021]
